There is a myth particularly in martial arts these days that karate is a sport for promoting fitness and self defense and confidence and it should never to be used in the street regardless of even if you are being attacked. It is said that you should walk away and perhaps even take a verbal of physical beating.
But if you think about this, it's really is quite ridiculous. Martial arts is all about fighting. It's about training to be able fight not just in tournaments but to be able to defend yourself on the street if need be. This doesn’t mean you are to become a bully, but if you find yourself cornered and in imminent danger of physical harm, being a trained karateka gives you the opportunity to fight off your attackers and escape without being harmed yourself.
